Montreal, November 1, 2022 – MT Lab is delighted to open an innovation hub dedicated to sustainable tourism, based in Quebec City. It was created thanks to the vision and financial participation of its co-founder and new partner, Destination Québec cité. Through this new pole of attraction, MT Lab is committed to accelerating impactful solutions to the economic, social and environmental challenges facing the world of tourism, and to making Quebec, and the Quebec City region, a world leader in sustainable tourism.

In its 2022-2025 strategic plan and its three-year sustainable tourism action plan, Destination Québec cité aims to better meet the needs of the industry and to be in line with the values of inclusion and respect for the environment, as promoted by visitors. As part of the partnership agreement signed between Destination Québec cité and MT Lab, $150,000 will be allocated over three (3) years to set up and develop the center, which will be managed by MT Lab. This opportunity also provides MT Lab with a springboard to become more involved with startups throughout Quebec.
Housed at Québec numérique, located in the heart of Quebec City, the MT Lab is setting up a convergence center open to all innovative companies ready to develop concrete sustainable development solutions for the tourism sector.
To encourage the success of this major project, the MT Lab is now surrounding itself with key players in cleantech, sustainable development and Quebec City’s digital community. This new innovation hub for sustainable tourism will create synergies between players with a wide range of expertise and a strong commitment, such as Québec numérique, 2 degrés, Mobis de la Coop carbone, Tourisme durable Québec and 42 Québec. These partnerships will promote exchanges of expertise, the sharing of experiences and ideas, and access to a wider network.

It’s a collective project, born in Quebec City, that will position the city as an international benchmark in sustainable tourism. We are deeply convinced that focusing on sustainable development will not only contribute to the fight against climate change, but will also bring significant economic opportunities for Quebec City, Mélissa Coulombe-Leduca municipal councillor in the Cap-aux-Diamants district and member of the Quebec City executive committee.
“As a tourist destination, we have the power to do more, to do better. We need to be rich in our past, but what’s also very important is to write our future by aiming to be more sustainable, more responsible and more innovative. The creation of this sustainable tourism innovation hub was of the utmost importance to us, as it transcends our vision of working in concert with the community to responsibly generate economic prosperity and sustainable spin-offs”, Robert Mercure, Director of Destination Québec cité.
“Our role is to support partners with a strong vision in tourism, propelling them through innovative projects from here and abroad. Destination Québec’s contribution to the creation of the sustainable tourism innovation cluster demonstrates a leadership that will benefit not only the entire region as a destination, but the whole of Quebec as a place of innovation.
