MUTEK + Dpt.

The customer

MUTEK is a Montreal festival of electronic music and digital art that has been running for 25 years. The festival has become a major event for music and technology fans alike. It has also played a crucial role in the discovery of new artists who now define the contemporary cultural landscape. Its unique model has made Montreal a popular destination for innovative and creative festivities.

Project summary

For its 25th edition, MUTEK is employing augmented reality signage to increase audience engagement with the event. The signage will operate in the form of interactive QR codes that will provide relevant information on artists, programming, points of interest and an audio and visual exploration through the festival’s history. This new system will accompany festival-goers, providing them with a more engaging experience that they can access via their smartphones.

The challenge

It’s important for museums and permanent attractions to renew themselves to attract new audiences. Innovative ideas from companies such as Stimulation Déjà-Vu are making such stations a reality.

Today, to stand out from the crowd, you need to employ innovative ideas and use technology to enhance the customer experience.

The solution

This unique exhibition offers the opportunity to immerse oneself in the marine world in a different way, and shows a new perspective on the exploration of aquatic environments.

The EAU’DORAT exhibition contains :

  • a varied olfactory station with information;
  • the opportunity to immerse yourself sensorially in the life of a polar bear and a shark, to become aware of their way of life;
  • marketing this exhibition to attract new visitors.

The service provider

Dpt. is a multidisciplinary studio founded in 2007. The studio designs and produces interactive experiences for immersive platforms, devices and places. It does so in XR as well as in physical space.

Results and findings

The exhibition was much appreciated by visitors and generated a great deal of enthusiasm. Good media coverage also helped to highlight the efforts and create excitement.

If we had to do it all over again, the materials would be chosen more for their durability, since we had to change several parts.
