Project – Le Musée des ondes Emile Berliner + Real-Time.Space

The Emile Berliner Wave Museum
+ Real-Time.Space

The customer

The Museum’s mission is to present the history of the capture, reproduction and broadcasting of sound and electromagnetic waves. It highlights the role of inventor Emile Berliner and his descendants, as well as that of Montreal companies associated with the technological and cultural revolution of the 20th century. Among the exhibits are radio sets, antique televisions and technologies of the past. Their mission to preserve, educate and promote these devices has shaped Quebec’s information and entertainment culture.

Project summary

As part of the funding project, the Museum aims to preserve and disseminate its unique collection of mechanical televisions. It is therefore embarking on a state-of-the-art 3D digitization initiative, which will create an immersive and comprehensive digital archive of these antiques. The high-quality images provide information and extensive enlargement and visualization options. The digitization of these devices will enable them to be better explored, preserving an accessible part of our collective memory for years to come. Archival 3D digitization offers opportunities for unlimited virtual access to the collection at a level of detail beyond what the human eye can perceive. This liberation from physical constraints enables a wider audience to engage meaningfully with our collection from a distance.

The challenge

It’s important for museums and permanent attractions to renew themselves to attract new audiences. Innovative ideas from companies such as Stimulation Déjà-Vu are making such stations a reality.

Today, to stand out from the crowd, you need to employ innovative ideas and use technology to enhance the customer experience.

The solution

This unique exhibition offers the opportunity to immerse oneself in the marine world in a different way, and shows a new perspective on the exploration of aquatic environments.

The EAU’DORAT exhibition contains :

  • a varied olfactory station with information;
  • the opportunity to immerse yourself sensorially in the life of a polar bear and a shark, to become aware of their way of life;
  • marketing this exhibition to attract new visitors.

The service provider

The 3D digitization and integration process of the 3D versions is being carried out by Real-Time.Space, a company specializing in the preservation of material culture for present and future generations, specifically targeting institutions and individuals in the memory institution sector.

Their services start with meticulous high-fidelity 3D scans, capturing the essence of each artifact to scale. They then create bespoke real-time visualization solutions, ensuring that artifacts transcend traditional presentation methods. With their solutions, institutions can engage and broaden public engagement while advancing toward collection and exhibition goals.

Results and findings

The exhibition was much appreciated by visitors and generated a great deal of enthusiasm. Good media coverage also helped to highlight the efforts and create excitement.

If we had to do it all over again, the materials would be chosen more for their durability, since we had to change several parts.
