Tourism innovation certification - level 1 (defining your project)

Are you a professional in
the tourism industry?

Take part in our free 6-session training course offered in partnership with ESG+.

This 6-session training course will help you understand the culture of innovation and open innovation, as well as the key stages in the development of an innovation project. Sessions will also cover the role of technology in the innovation process, as well as supporting environments, fostering a holistic and collaborative approach to promoting innovation in all fields.

In short, the course offers you :

  • 4 x 20-minute podcasts for independent listening before each session;
  • 4 videoconference sessions lasting 2h00 with 2 experienced trainers;
  • 2 individual 30-minute videoconference meetings with the trainers;
  • 1 start-up session in Montreal to break the ice;
  • 1 one-day face-to-face session in Montreal or Quebec City to put what you’ve learned into practice.

Our 2 trainers :

Professor since 2015 in the Department of Urban and Tourism Studies at the School of Management Sciences, Université du Québec à Montréal (Canada). In addition to his academic and scientific commitments, Mr.Khomsi collaborates with several players in the tourism industry. In collaboration with Événements et attractions Québec, and with the support of the Quebec Ministry of Tourism, Mr.Khomsi launched in spring 2023 the first Quebec observatory on pricing innovation in attractions and events, whose objective is to help players in this sector adapt their pricing strategy in line with evolving best practices and to cope with climate change.  

D. in regional development from UQAR, he is interested in tourism as a development mechanism for local communities. Director of Téoros and holder of the UQAM Chair in Territorial Dynamics and Socio-Territorial Relations, he is the author of over twenty articles published in English- and French-language journals.

How to apply to the Program

The aim of the program is to strengthen innovative Quebec companies with growth potential.

They are intended to foster innovation in the Quebec’s tourism industry by responding to needs through the development of concrete solutions.

The aim of the coaching is to maximize the solution’s impact and encourage its growth as an innovative company.

Selection and application process

  • Complete and submit the application form by January 10, 11:59 p.m.
  • Send your deliverables (see detailed Guide)
  • The selection committee meets in January 2022and up to 5 companies will be selected as winners to start the program in February 2022;
  • Only selected companies will be contacted.

Eligibility criteria

Be legally constituted under federal or Quebec law and registered with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec;

  • Have its head office in Quebec and its employees work mainly from Quebec;
  • Not be 50% or more owned by other existing companies or organizations;
  • Own the rights to use the intellectual property of its product or service;
  • Began its marketing phase and be in a growth phase.

Evaluation criteria

  • (20%) The company responds adequately to 1 or more of the industry’s 4 priority themes
  • (20%) The company demonstrates ability to grow rapidly over a 12-month horizon
  • (15%) Innovative nature of the solution and demonstration of business model business model
  • (15%) The company demonstrates its market relevance and relevance of its innovation (product or service) for thetourism industry and/or international tourism industry
  • (15%) The innovative company demonstrates a need for growth whose success will benefit innovation ecosystem and/or international tourism innovation ecosystem
  • (15%) Relevance and clarity of supportneeds
