Strategic support for intellectual property
The Equipe pour la Propriété Intellectuelle des Industries Créatives et Culturelles, or in its abbreviated form “ÉPIICC”, provides one-to-one support for innovative companies in the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) in their intellectual property (IP) initiatives.
ÉPIICC is a Montreal-based consortium comprising MT Lab, an incubator-accelerator in Tourism, Culture and Entertainment, and La Piscine, an incubator-accelerator for creative and cultural businesses.

Intellectual property (IP) is an essential, and now indispensable, component of any business, and corresponds to all the exclusive rights granted to intellectual creations.
For innovative companies, IP is often associated with patents, but in reality it covers many other fields, such as the protection of brand names, industrial designs and logos, as well as the structuring of licenses and franchises, the formalization of copyrights… So many fields that are totally adapted to the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI).
As part of the federal funding program “Elevate IP / Élever la PI”, deployed in Quebec by Main QC, ÉPIICC implements for CCIs, innovative CCI companies can benefit from individualized coaching.
ÉPIICC helps you define your IP strategy (part 2 of the federal program) and provides support in implementing the strategy (part 3, partially funded).
If your application is accepted, the fee for an intellectual property strategy is between $1,000 and $3,000 for a value of between $3,000 and $12,000. If you are enrolled in an MT Lab or Piscine program, the strategy is free.
The federal funding program “Elevate IP / Élever la PI” covers 70% of the costs. Your file must first have an IP strategy developed by ÉPIIC or not. A committee selects eligible files.
If you’re a CCI company in need of support for your IP, you may be eligible.

MT Lab and La Piscine have identified a specific need for intellectual property in the CCI (Cultural and Creative Industries), which is sometimes far removed from the more commonly known patents. This distance between patents and the conceptual reality of CCI businesses has often led innovative companies to neglect this essential aspect of their business. And yet, there is so much potential. Look at Cirque du Soleil, franchises like St-Hubert and others, the entire music industry, technologies like Fortnite and so many other innovative solutions.
What also characterizes CCI IP is that thinking must take place at the very heart of the creative process. The idea is to integrate the notion of IP into the creative process, in order to build a business or offerings that will have the capacity to accumulate value for the benefit of their creator-owners.
